Comparison of magazines
I have analysed my three texts and from this I have drawn up some typical codes and conventions and also found similarities between them. These are :
Front Cover
· All three have there logo at the top of the page
· All three have some sort of free offer to draw there viewers in
· The two music magazine have large headlines of the bands names
· All three tend to used banners in order to dived there front covers and also portray there information
· All three used advertisement either for there articles, synergies, or other companies
· They tend to use rhetorical questions to make there viewers want to read more on
· There also seems to be lots of opinions used within the strap lines in order to make the band seem more appealing to the audience
· Also with certain banners there seems to be hard hitting words used to interest the reader
· There is the also he typical convention of having barcodes, issue dates, and prices
· Logos tend to portray the type of magazine it is
· Tend to have a plus icon to intrigue readers
· All have there own unique colour schemes and house styles
Contents page
· All reiterate there logo
· All three talk about subscribing to there magazines or tend to have some information on the magazines itself
· All split the contents into sections using dividers and small banners
· All have a large main picture as the focal point of there page
· All have their issue dates
· All are very stylised to house themes
· They tend to have a small picture of other issues
· All have page numbers
Double Page Spread
All use enlarged quotes in order to draw the audiences attention in
All have a smaller banner in the left hand corner to reiterate who the article is on
Main headlines tend to be a quote
All start with a drop letter
All pictures are very posed
All have there own certain theme in order to portray there attitude towards the music and there over all persona in which is portrayal of themselves
All tend to have small subtext used a brief summary of the article
